He was predeceased by: his parents, Ernest J. Murphy and Isolene Boyd Murphy of Augusta; his wife Ann Butler Murphy; and his grandson Brad Fielder Hardman. He is survived by: his daughters, Carol Murphy Grant and Jan Murphy Hardman; his sister Jean Murphy O'Hara of North Augusta, SC; and his grandchildren, Ashley Grant of North Augusta, SC, Tracy Grant, Scott Hardman and Georgia.
One of his greatest achievements was being honored by receiving the Excellence Award for his significant contributions to the Nuclear Weapons Program.
