We announce the death of Raye Kernells Chapman (North Charleston, South Carolina), who passed away on July 17, 2026, at the age of 87. Raye will be remembered by family members, friends, and others whose lives were connected in meaningful ways. She was predeceased by: her parents, Ervin Lee Kernells and Onie Bowen Kernells; and her husband Col. Richard Chapman, Jr.. She is survived by: her brother Vernon Lee Kernells; her children, Abby Thompson (Chris) of Mt. Pleasant, Pamela Chapman of Summerville and Robert Chapman of Lancaster, SC.; and her grandchildren, Alethea Mase, Jason Mauz, Jeffrey Mauz, Clay Chapman and Erica Chapman. She is also survived by 7 great grandchildren, 2 great-great grandsons and a niece.
In lieu of flowers, the family requests donations be made to the Alzheimer's Foundation or Meals on Wheels, Mt. Pleasant.
