Jewell Smith Obituary

It is with great sadness that we announce the death of Jewell Smith of North Myrtle Beach, South Carolina, who passed away on September 29, 2025, at the age of 78, leaving to mourn family and friends. Family and friends are welcome to leave their condolences on this memorial page and share them with the family.

She was predeceased by: her parents, O'dell Rogers and Frances Rogers. She is survived by: her spouse Dr. Laurie Nicholas Smith; her children, Joseph Benjamin Brogdon III, Frances Brogdon Locklier (Scott), Shawn Smith, Edward Smith (Amy), Lara Ann Whitehead (Ryan) and Casey Layman (Jason); her brother Larry Rogers (Wanda); her grandchildren, Dalton Brogdon (Sara), Marshall Anderson, Cali Brogdon, Hayden Brogdon, Ava Grace Whitehead, Easton Layman, Tanner Layman, Brody Layman, Grainger Smith and Jake Smith; her pet Oakley; and her grandson Ben Anderson (Joseph Benjamin Brogdon, Jr.).

Visitation will be held on Thursday, October 2nd 2025 from 11:00 AM to 12:00 PM at the Elmore-Cannon-Stephens Funeral Home (515 Miller Rd, Sumter, SC 29150). A funeral service will be held on Thursday, October 2nd 2025 at 12:00 PM at the same location. A burial will be held on Thursday, October 2nd 2025 at the Sumter Cemetery (700 W Oakland Ave, Sumter, SC 29151).

In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to First Baptist Church of North Myrtle Beach, MUSC Foundation, or to a charity of one's choice.
