It is with deep sorrow that we announce the death of Dorothy Ellis Smart of Okatie, South Carolina, born in Savannah, Georgia, who passed away on June 14, 2023, at the age of 96, leaving to mourn family and friends. She was predeceased by : her parents, W. J. Ellis and Ivy Ellis (Langford); her husband Col. Curtis L. Smart; and her grandchildren, Donald T. Knowles, Jr. and Kimberly A. Knowles.

She is survived by : her daughters, Ann (Ronnie Nettles), Patricia (Calvin Bryan) and Victoria (Roy Pryor); and her grandchildren, Kellie Chapman (Eric), Jared Bryan (Trish), Josh Cleveland (Lauren), Lee Pryor (Sarah) and Luke Cleveland (Rodney). She is also survived by several great-grandchildren.

The family is asking that in lieu of flowers, donations be made to Epworth Children's Home, Columbia, SC.
