He was predeceased by: his parents, G. W. Courtney and Ethel Courtney; his wife Arline Maner Courtney; his son Dwight Edwin Courtney, Jr. (Eddie); his children-in-law, Alvin Moore Usher, Jr. (Al) and Carol Courtney; and his siblings, Georgia Mae Davis and Pete Courtney.

He is survived by: his children, Robbin Courtney Usher, Chris Courtney and Tracy Courtney (Sharon); his sister Jerolyn Mungo (Ernest); his grandchildren, Courtney Usher Brown, Trent Usher (Jerica), Justin Courtney (Blair) and Josh Courtney (Emily); and his great grandchildren, Ali Grace Brown, Hayden Courtney, Gunnar Courtney, Grant Courtney, Camryn Courtney, Baze Usher and Tuck Courtney.
