He was predeceased by: his parents, Edward Rex and Ethel Jeanette Easterly (Jagermann); his wife Jennie Lee Hendricks; his half-brother Fred Eugene Adams; and his sisters, Delores Jean Moritz and Shirley Dean Rhalfs.

He is survived by: his daughter Tonya; his son-in-law Jeffrey Vickery; his granddaughters, Elizabeth Vickery-Lewis and Ally Vickery Hawkins; and his family, Reid, Betty Ann Black (Cooper), James Black, Maria Grace Edwards and Elijah James Black. He is also survived by 17 nieces and nephews.

He took care of her at home until her death in January 2020 and he survived the beginning months of the pandemic social distancing alone.

In 2016, Jennie's Alzheimer's required more attention, so Rex retired from paid work.
