It is with great sadness that we announce the death of Gertrude Elizabeth Hughes (Pickens, South Carolina), who passed away on September 26, 2023, at the age of 98, leaving to mourn family and friends. She was predeceased by: her husband Ellis A. Hughes; her parents, Earlie Simmons and Ollie Hudson Simmons; and her children, Elaine Reece and Samuel Hughes.
She is survived by: her daughters, Catherine Gilstrap and Audrey Morris; her children-in-law, Carl Reece and Cathy Hughes; her grandchildren, Jennifer G. O'Shields, Cindi G. Dennis, Robert Morris, Eugene Hughes (Emilie), Jason Morris (Rosanne), Samantha Langdale (Rick) and Jonathon Morris (Marissa); her great grandchildren, Ryan O'Shields, Caroline O'Shields, Lauren Gross (Zack), Joseph Dennis, Sarah Dennis, Bryeton Morris (Caroline), Emma Morris, Luke Morris, Ellie Morris, Poppy Morris and Eliza Langdale; and her sister Doris Childs. She is also survived by many nieces and nephews.
In lieu of flowers, the family requests that memorial donations be made to either Interim Hospice: 100 Verdae Blvd Suite 200, Greenville, SC 29607; or to a charity of one's choice.
