He was predeceased by: his wife Virginia R. Burgess; his parents, Dean Burgess and Edith Burgess; his son William "Skitter" Burgess; his stepsons, Thomas Philyaw and Ricky Evett; and his brothers, Norman Burgess, Charles Burgess and Calvin Burgess.
He is survived by: his children, Patsy Wade of Dacusville, Cameron Burgess (Tracy) of Cleveland, Donna Walker of Pickens and Cindy Burgess of Pickens. He is also survived by seven grandchildren, and eleven great-grandchildren.
