He is survived by: his children, Melvin "Tom" Thompson, Jr., William "Willie" Lee Hawthorne, Karen Storey (Sam) and Brandie Smith (Steve); and his sister Linda Anderson. He is also survived by 10 grandchildren; 13 great-grandchildren; and 3 great-great-grandchildren.
