He was predeceased by: his parents, Claude M. James and Grace Kelly James; his former wife Rona James; his grandchildren, Andrew Barfield and Katie James; and his brother-in-law Buddy Lucas.

He is survived by: his wife Betty R. James; his children, David James (Pam) and Beth Barfield (David); and his sister Polly Lucas. He is also survived by numerous grandchildren, great-grandchildren, nieces and nephews.

Visitation was held on Sunday, April 26th 2026 from 3:00 PM to 5:00 PM at the Caughman-Harman Funeral Home – Lexington (503 N Lake Dr, Lexington, SC 29072).
