With solemn hearts, we announce the passing of Joe Wells of Rock Hill, South Carolina, whose presence will be deeply missed, having departed on January 23, 2026 at the age of 86. Family and friends are welcome to leave their condolences on this memorial page and share them with the family.
He was predeceased by: his parents, Maude Wells Bowman and Johnnie (Jannie Wells); his adoptive parents, Jannie Wells, Johnnie and Maude Wells Bowman; and his siblings, Jesse Wells, Leon Wells, Marion Wells, MaryAnn Womack, Mae Wilson, Willa T McBride, Corine Stenson and Jimmy Wells.
He is survived by: his significant other Bishop Robert Gay; his children, Shirley A. Daniels, Joann M Wells (Michael), Marvin L Wells (Phyllis) and Julius E. Wells (Tonya); his siblings, Wilamenia McBride, Bessie A. Bowman and John Wells; his siblings-in-law, Edna Allison, Catherine Allison, Malachi Allison (Gail), Harry T Allison and Robert Womack; his grandchildren, Bernard Washington (Alicia), Marvin L Wells, Jr., Ryshon S Wells, Jocelyn S Conquest (Jay), Mykia M Wells, Maliqua J. Howard (Omari), Jerome Dickson, Ja'Quesha Barron, Diamond Harris, Shakira Wells and Jayla McManus; and his nephew Keith Allison (Simone). He is also survived by twelve great grandchildren; one great-great grandson.
