He was predeceased by: his son Arnold Wayne Helms Jr.; and his parents, A. J. Helms and Lena Adams Helms. He is survived by: his wife Linda Blackwelder Helms; his daughter Stephanie Helms; his granddaughter Haley Howington; and his grandson-in-law Samuel Howington.

In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to the Hejaz Temple in Greenville, South Carolina.
