He was predeceased by: his parents, John Horton and Bea Cothran Horton; and his siblings, Daphne Martin, Martha Waldrop, Nancy Cantrell and Ray Horton.

He is survived by: his wife Doris Horton; his children, Jeff Horton (Crystal), Wendy Horton (Amber) and Jamie Smith (Blair); his sister Kay Pack (James); his grandchildren, Dwayne Hughes, Allison Oelkers, Casen Smith, Mary Ella Smith and Mason Horton; and his great grandchild Sophia Hughes. He is also survived by numerous nieces and nephews.
