With solemn hearts, we announce the passing of Mildred Walker (Saluda, South Carolina), whose presence will be deeply missed, having departed on September 8, 2025 at the age of 83. Family and friends are welcome to leave their condolences on this memorial page and share them with the family.
She was predeceased by: her parents, Edna Bailey and James Gaither; her siblings, Rachel Phifer Sceals, Harry Phifer, Frank Junior Westmoreland, Kenneth Herman Phifer, Harry Gaither, William "Billy" Gaither and Allen "Peter" Gaither; and her stepbrother Walter Leak.
She is survived by: her son Ray Winford, Sr. (Talitha C. Houston) of Charlotte, N. C.; her sisters, Robin M. Gaither of Queens, N. Y. and Annie Mae Tartt of Bronx, N. Y.; her stepbrother James Leak of Memphis, TN; her siblings-in-law, Cynthia Elaine Downing (David) of Saluda, S. C., Libby Ruth Walker of Los Angeles, CA, Jaqueline Lewis Berkel of Louisiana and George H. Moore of Saluda, S. C.; and her cousin Ann Winford (Delaney) of Troutman, N. C..
Viewing was held on Friday, September 12th 2025 from 2:00 PM to 3:00 PM and from 3:00 PM to 6:00 PM at the Butler and Sons Funeral Home (306 N Bouknight Ferry Rd, Saluda, SC 29138). A celebration of life was held on Saturday, September 13th 2025 at 1:00 PM at the Pleasant Hill Baptist Church (130 Pleasant Hill Rd, Saluda, SC 29138).
