He was predeceased by : his parents, Charles Dowe Best and Annie Neal Hardee Best; his grandson Kyle Best; and his brothers, Edwin Best and Tim Thompson.

He is survived by : his wife Virginia Tobias Best; his sons, Bobby "Robbie" Best, Jr. (Lisa) of Effingham and Branden Best (Jennifer) of Scranton; his grandchildren, Bobby "Trey" Best III of Effingham, Natalia "Tally" Best of Kingstree, Tracy Branden "TJ" Best, Jr. of Kingstree, Taylin Best of Scranton and Hayley Nichols of Effingham; and his sister Jewel Floyd of Scranton.
