He was predeceased by: his parents, Harris Ackerman and Mary Elise Broad Ackerman; his stepmother Myrtle Lee Ackerman; his son-in-law Tony Owens; and his brother Ervin Clinton "Bubba" Ackerman.
He is survived by: his daughter Dawn Ackerman Owens; his sister Vicki Tippins; his grandchildren, Tyler Exum (Catherine) and Angel Barfield (Drew); his great grandchild Baylee Anne Exum; his sister-in-law Mildred Ackerman; and his nephews, Jarrod Tippins (Jill), Toby Ackerman (Cathy), Jimmy Ackerman (Sharon) and Brad Ackerman (Miranda). He is also survived by several great nieces, nephews.
