He was predeceased by : his parents, Marvin Bethune Pate and Gertrude Wall Pate; and his grandparents, D. P. Wall, Jessie H. Wall, Charles H. Pate, MD and Martha Inez Penelope "Nellie" Singletary.

He is survived by : his wife D. Sandra M. Pate of Scranton; his sons, Robert F. G. Pate (Alisa F.) of Scranton and Marvin Alan Pate (Lisa Jo F.) of Scranton; his grandchildren, Hayley P. Gause (Stanton), Ella P. Bair (Ryan), Emma E. Pate, Kiley R. Pate, Greta G. Pate and Bratten P. Pate; his great grandchild Olivia Rose Gause; and his sister Mildred P. Yarborough (Leon) of Scranton.
