He was predeceased by: his parents, Harley Edward and Reva Irene Rodman Short; his brothers, Merle, Arvin, Gary and Richard Short; and his nephews, Pat and Kelly Chastka.

He is survived by: his wife Marta Lynn Martin Short of Seneca, SC; his children, Jason Short (Laura) of Midlothian, TX, Emily Smith (Aaron) of West Union, SC and Allison Molgaard (Josh) of Brookeville, MD; his sister Harlene Chastka of Paden, OK; and his grandchildren, Sloan Short, Reed Short, Ryder Smith, Cooper Smith, Laurel Smith, Austin Molgaard and Dillon Molgaard.
