He was predeceased by: his parents, James Rufus and Sara Elizabeth Calvert Powell; and his brother Billy Powell. He is survived by: his wife Linda Cunningham Powell; his sons, Jason Powell (Leigh) of Hendersonville and Jody Powell (Dalinda) of Greer; his grandchildren, Callie Ploeger (Hayden), Jake Powell (Matthew), Natalie Powell and Drew Powell; his great grandchild Ruby Ploeger; and his brothers, Jimmy, Danny (Frankie), Steve (Joy), Randy, Kenny (Stephanie) and Barry Powell (Debbie).
