She was predeceased by : her husband Maurice "Mo" Messier; her parents, Spurgeon Samuel Smith and Ada Fay Floyd Smith; her son Christopher Owens; and her siblings, Jerry Smith and Brenda Dunnigan.

She is survived by : her daughters, Diane Rogers (Harvey) and Debbie Hill (Ben); her siblings, Rick Smith and Rhonda Borovicka; her grandchildren, Heather Rogers (Chad), Haley Rogers, Rebecca Rogers, Brittany Williams (Nathan) and Daniel Hill (Mikala); and her great grandchildren, Harper Rogers-Regenthal, Cyrus Rogers-Messinger, Gideon Marshall, Cotton Barton, Woodward Barton, Lee Williams, RoseEllen Williams and Emerson Hill.

Visitation was held on Friday, September 22nd 2023 from 1:00 PM to 1:30 PM at the GracePoint Church (319 W Georgia Rd, Simpsonville, SC 29681). A funeral service was held on Friday, September 22nd 2023 from 1:30 PM to 2:30 PM at the same location. A burial was held on Friday, September 22nd 2023 from 3:00 PM to 4:00 PM at the Graceland East Memorial Park (2206 Woodruff Rd, Simpsonville, SC 29681).
