He was predeceased by: his parents, Dorothy Rose Fike and George Asbury Harley; his son George Russell Harley, Jr.; and his sisters, Ann Harley Poole and Patricia Harley Clement.

He is survived by: his daughter Christine Harley Fant; his son-in-law Luther Franklin Fant, Jr.; his grandchildren, Mary Harley Fant, Luther Franklin Fant, III and George Tate Fant; his great grandchild James Allen Fant; his daughter Patty Ann Brennan; and his son-in-law Terry Joseph Brennan.
