He was loved and cherished by many people including : his parents, J. T. Blassengame and Rebecca Mozell Davis Harper; his wife Elbethea Harper; his children, Rodney Sartor, Sandra Frye (Mitchell), Sally McCoy (Willie, III) and Joseph, Jr. Harper (Yolanda); his grandchildren, Quentin, Jeremy, William, Tiyonna, Timila, Sarah and Malik; and his great great grandchildren, Amina, Avery, Gracie and Zahra. He was also cherished by nieces, nephews, cousins other relatives and friends.

A funeral service was held on Sunday, April 21st 2024 at 3:00 PM at the John Stinson Woodward Memorial Chapel (602 Howard St, Spartanburg, SC 29303).
