He was loved and cherished by many people including: his parents, Nathan Ayers and Nell Ayers; his wife Elsa; his sister Betty Hicks (Bill); his daughters, Smedes Ayers Lindner (Doug) and Elizabeth Ayers Maybank (Thomas); his grandchildren, John Drake Karcher, Elsa Rose Karcher, Tad Maybank, Margaret Maybank and Joseph Maybank; and his stepgrandchildren, Sarah Lindner, George Lindner and Edward Lindner.
