She was predeceased by: her parents, Jere Leonard Morton, Sr. and Lillian Jones Morton; her husband Chuck Abernethy; and her siblings, J. Leonard Morton, Jr. and Anne Marie Hill.
She is survived by: her children, Laura Brock (John) of Lexington, NC, Clay Abernethy of Waynesville, NC and Alan Abernethy (Terry) of Summerville, SC; and her grandchildren, Sydni Abernethy, Henry Abernethy, George Abernethy, Taylor Abernethy (Becca), Darby Towne (Dillon), Mackenzie Abernethy and Riley Abernethy. She is also survived by 13 great-grandchildren.
