He was predeceased by : his parents, Thomas H. Peterson II and Caroline Daly Peterson; his former life partner Patricia Spain Peterson; and his sisters, Bobbi Tracy, Sharon Van Gelden and Susan Peterson (Janice).

He is survived by : his wife Mary Ellen Bowen Peterson; his children, Tammy Lee Malphrus (Troy), Torry Dockendorf (Bill) and Thomas H. Peterson IV "T. J." (Nancy); his stepchildren, Mary Katharine Barker (Charles) and David Bowen (Pok Cha); his grandchildren, Haley Nicole Garner (Gary), Rachael Elizabeth Peterson and Melah Lee Dockendorf; his stepgranddaughter Katharine Bowen; and his sisters, Carol Beutler (Ramona Primeaux) and Patty Vokes.

A memorial service was held on Saturday, April 27th 2024 at 3:00 PM at the Church of the Epiphany Episcopal Church (212 Central Ave, Summerville, SC 29483).

In lieu of flowers, the family requests memorial donations be made to Alzheimer's Association at alz.org or Paralyzed Veterans of America at pva.org.
