He was predeceased by: his parents, John Milby Gibson and Margaret Laulee King Gibson. He is survived by: his wife Suzanne Risher Gibson; his daughters, Mary Lee Mossor (Tony) of Sumter and Suzanne Gibson Tweddle (Terry) of Kingstree; his grandchildren, Ashley Kate Mossor (Scott Cole), Kelley Jackson, Stacy Brunson (Daniel) and James Robert "Jimmy" Gibson, III; his daughter-in-law Jaci Gibson; his adoptive daughter Maurine Toomie; and his close friends, Angel Hansen and Autumn Hansen.

Memorials may be made to Aldersgate United Methodist Church, 211 Alice Dr. Sumter, S.C. 29150 or to Amedysis Hospice, 198 E. Wesmark Blvd. Sumter, S.C. 29150.
