She was predeceased by: her husband Melvin Cecil Atkinson, Sr.; her parents, Herbert L. Powell and Lillie Scott Powell; her children, Neta Burns and Jacky Smith; and her siblings, Thelma, Elise, Modena, Ramona, Herbert L. Powell, Jr. and Baby Boy Giles.
She is survived by: her children, Melvin C. "Rusty" Atkinson, Jr. (Wanda) and Patricia Miles; her son-in-law Charles Burns; and her brother Coley Powell. She is also survived by ten grandchildren; and fifteen great-grandchildren.
In lieu of flowers, memorials may be sent to New Salem Baptist Church, 2500 W. Oakland Ave., Sumter, SC 29154.
