He is survived by: his wife Regina Staps Witherspoon; his daughter Tatjana Wittenberg of Pforzheim, Germany; his grandchildren, Nina Wittenberg and Maximilian "Max" Wittenberg of Pforzheim, Germany; his siblings, Bertha Lucas of Sumter, SC, Gregory Witherspoon (Genova) of Sumter, SC, Thomas Witherspoon of Sumter, SC and Anthony Witherspoon (Marie) of Sumter, SC; and his sister-in-law Janie Holland of Sumter, SC. He is also survived by nieces, nephews, aunts, uncles and other relatives and friends.
