He was predeceased by: his parents, Col. John Harold Harden, Sr. and Lucille Pritchard Harden; and his daughter Blaire Whitney Harden. He is survived by: his sister Dr. Elizabeth A. Harden (Richard A. Hoefer) of Charleston.

In lieu of flowers, memorials may be sent to the First Baptist Church of Sumter, 107 East Liberty Street, Sumter, SC 29150 and Alice Drive Baptist Church, 1305 Loring Mill Road, Sumter, SC 29150.

“A friend who always made each of us feel special … worthy… valuable. Loved to tease and laugh deeply. John made such a large impact on the youth of our church . Many of us healed from deep hurts together while in the study Experiencing God . He was convicted of and regretted mistakes ,as we all have, but he knew God never turned his back on him.
