He was predeceased by: his parents, Cecil Russell and Elizabeth Atkinson Russell Atkinson; and his brother James C. "Jimmy" Russell. He is survived by: his wife Mary Scott Russell; his daughters, Cindy Watts of Murrells Inlet, Babs Wright (Bill) of Charleston, Debra Miller (Jim) of Jefferson, Melissa Davis Pack of Chapin, Marijon Ardis (Stan) of Sumter and Tammy Anderson of Sumter; his brother Billy Joe Russell (Renay) of Sumter; and his grandsons, Josh Watts, Connor Miller, Ryan Miller, Bryson Ardis, Hayden Ardis and Rhett Jones. He is also survived by fifteen grandchildren; 10 great grandchildren.
