Darlena Pierce wrote a sympathy message

“Chief Beard, and family, this is Andre and Darlena Pierce. We were your neighbors in the off base housing in Sumter. I didn't realize that you all had retired there. Julia and I use to get up early in the morning walking. I loved those times together. I never forgot the advice she gave me as a younger mother about my son. She told me in her soft spoken voice not to kill his spirit with the choice of discipline and I never forgot it. Thank you for sharing her and we are here for you.”
