Kathy Spann Hampton Obituary

Celebration of Life Kathy Yvonne Spann Hampton Mrs. Kathy Yvonne Spann Hampton, third child, second daughter of the late Elvin Spann Jr. and Geneva Reese Spann was born on Thursday, May 28, 1953 in Mayesville, SC. You could always find Kathy with a book, seeking knowledge. Even though she experienced several illnesses, Yahweh had a plan for her to thrive and persevere.

Kathy was educated in Sumter County District Two Public Schools. She graduated from Mayewood High School as Valedictorian and from Voorhees College with a B.A. in Mathematics and Science Magna Cum Laude and Master's from Capella University.

Kathy believed in serving her church family and community. She gave freely of her time. Nothing however was more important than spending time with family. As a wife and mom, she valued time spent with those she loved the most. Affectionately known as "KeKe" by her grandsons, who always knew how to make her smile, watching them grow was one of her greatest joys. Kathy leaves a legacy of love and service.

In addition to her mother and father; she was preceded in death by her brother, Herman Spann.

She leaves to cherish precious memories: her spouse of 44 wonderful years, George Washington Hampton; two beautiful children, Asha Marchella Hampton of Columbia, SC; Jared Akins Hampton (Lameka Miles), of Charlotte, NC; four precious grandsons: Maxwell Anasi, Mauro Andwelle, and Miles Arshad Burrell all of Columbia, SC. and Antwan Quelon Davis of Charlotte, NC; five sisters: Evelyn Spann Hedges, Geneva Spann Rufus, Sharon (Wilbert) Spann Gamble, Glenda (Kelvin) Spann Hinnant, all of Charlotte, NC; Mildred (Silas) Spann Washington of Columbia, SC; and one "special brother" Samuel (Benita) Spann of Sumter, SC. Three aunts: Geneva (Moses) Hudson; Annie (Phillip) Rembert, and Beverly (Gerard) Benjamin all of Sumter, SC; three sisters in-law, Janice (Jeffrey) Waynes, Darlene (Cerrance) Clark, both from Maryland, Denice Chatman of Washington, DC; one brother in-law Leroy (Edith) Chatman, Tampa Florida and a host of nieces, nephews, cousins, other relatives, and friends.

The service will be live streamed beginning at 2:00 PM on our Facebook page Palmer Memorial Chapel.
