He was predeceased by: his brother Leo Harkless; his grandparents, Hannibal, Lucinda James, Clinton and Ruth Shannon; and his niece Hazel James.
He is survived by: his parents, Samuel, Sr. James and Ruby Lee Shannon James; his siblings, Darryl Bufford (Nisey) of Atlanta, Samuel R. James of Sumter, Antonio James (Nakenya) of Sumter, Bernard James of Sumter, Andre James (Latonya) of Summerville, Darrick James (Christy) of Sumter, Amy James of Sumter and Ashley Walker (Nijai); his adoptive son Emmanuel Brunson; his granddaughter Layla Kennedy; his godmother Jacquelyn Lee; and his close friend Jackie Jenkins. He is also survived by nieces, nephews, aunts, uncles, cousins and friends.
Viewing was held on Friday, July 11th 2025 from 3:00 PM to 6:00 PM at the Whites Mortuary (517 N Guignard Dr, Sumter, SC 29150). A celebration of life will be held on Saturday, July 12th 2025 at 2:00 PM at the Jehovah Missionary Baptist Church (609 Manning Ave, Sumter, SC 29150). A burial will be held on Saturday, July 12th 2025 at the Evergreen Memorial Park (802 N Guignard Dr, Sumter, SC 29150).
