He was predeceased by: his parents, Ossie Newkirk and Natalie Shields Newkirk; and his siblings, Melvin Newkirk, William Newkirk, Ossie Newkirk, Sherman Newkirk, Carolyn Newkirk, Leola Newkirk and Marilyn James.
He is survived by: his wife Roberta Newkirk of Middlesex; and his children, David Newkirk (Shana) of Sumter, S. C., Donna Newkirk (Clyde) of Savannah, GA and Kelly Newkirk Thomas (Jasper) of Hoover, ALA. He is also survived by nine grandchildren; nineteen great grandchildren, and a host of nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends.
He was a member of Grace Cathedral Ministries of Sumter where he served as a part of the media ministry prior to COVID.
