It is with great sadness that we announce the death of Phillip Hale Abbott of Sumter, South Carolina, who passed away on August 1, 2025, at the age of 69, leaving to mourn family and friends. Family and friends are welcome to leave their condolences on this memorial page and share them with the family.
As Phillip Hale departs from this earthly realm, his essence lingers — a whisper on the wind, a ripple on the water — a testament to the enduring power of love to transcend the boundaries of life and death. Though Phillip Hale may no longer walk beside us, his spirit lives on in the memories and the legacy Phillip Hale leaves behind.
He was predeceased by: his parents, Geneva "Sissy" Abbott and Jack Hale Abbott. He is survived by: his wife Norma Owens Abbott; his children, Katherine Dowdney (Sam) of Folsom, CA, Jack Abbott (Maggie) of John's Island, SC and Caroline Blakeslee of Columbia, SC; and his brother Tommy Abbott (Valerie). He is also survived by five beautiful grandchildren.
A memorial service will be held on Tuesday, September 2nd 2025 at 2:00 PM at the Chapel of First Presbyterian Church (9 W Calhoun St, Sumter, SC 29150).
