He was predeceased by: his parents, Omar Harshman and Madeline Hornbaker Harshman; his son Dwayne Harshman; and his stepson Robert Rising. He is survived by: his wife Rachel Harriett Monroe Harshman; his sons, Richard Lee Harshman, Jr. of Hagerstown, MD, Gary Harshman of Hagerstown, MD, Steven Harshman (Mirium) of Sumter, SC and David Harshman (Jennifer) of Charleston, SC; his stepsons, Ronald Rising of Chestertown, NY and Richard Rising (Nicole) of Brant Lake, NY; his brother Gary Harshman (Zennie) of Bethune, SC; his niece Tina Harshman-Price of Bethune, SC; and his nephew Gary Harshman, Jr. of Hagerstown, MD.
