He was predeceased by: his parents, Samuel Cope and Dorothy Cope (Durkin); his wife Mildred Jeanette Cope of Jim's Restaurant; his stepmother Grace; and his sister Norrine "Nini" Alleva.

He is survived by: his children, Suzanne Sims of Borden, SC, Sandra Monroe (Josh) of Sumter, SC, Allen Moore (Blanca) of Borden, SC, Brian Cope (Michelle) of Murrells Inlet, SC and Dawn McElveen of Charleston, SC; his grandchildren, Max Sims, Shannon East (David), Elizabeth Moore, Joshua Walter, Josiah Walter, Benjamin Monroe, Deanna Sapp (Syd), Allen-Michel Moore, Diego Moore, Mia Moore, Carson Moore, Madalyn Morgan (Tony) and Sullivan Hofstetter (Reid); and his sisters, Mary El Ray and Dotty Martin. He is also survived by many nieces, nephews, and life-long friends.

While helping to care for his mother-in-law, who had Alzheimer's, he helped lead an Alzheimer's support group.
