He is survived by: his wife Dorothy McCray Starnes; his children, Lateka Starnes of Sumter, SC, Demetri Starnes of Sumter, SC, Jessica Johnson (Latoya) of Sumter, SC and Latesha Starnes of Sumter, SC; his grandchildren, Imanee Summerlin (Jordon Ponder) of McDonough, GA, Imaree Summerlin of Conway, SC, Kayla Johnson of Sumter, SC, Zaniyah Watson of Orangeburg, SC, Aniya Brailsford of Sumter, SC and Markell Toney of Sumter, SC.; and his siblings, Pamela Gober (Irvin) of Gainesville, GA, Beverly Hargrove (James) of Sumter, SC, Ministers Mary Wright (Reginald) of Anderson, SC, Teresa Sterling of Sunnyvale, CA, Dr. Lucretia Starnes of Kissimmee, FL, Sherry Pitt of Sumter, SC., Jean Slaton of Sumter, SC., Kevin Starnes of Sumter, SC. and Latasha Pompey of Sumter, SC.. He is also survived by nieces, nephews, great-nieces, great-nephews, extended family members, and dear friends.
Viewing was held on Friday, June 13th 2025 from 1:00 PM to 5:00 PM at the Palmer Memorial Chapel (304 S Main St, Sumter, SC 29150). A celebration of life was held on Saturday, June 14th 2025 at 1:00 PM at the Mulberry Baptist Church (1400 Mulberry Church Rd, Sumter, SC 29153). A burial was held on Saturday, June 14th 2025 at the same location.
