With solemn hearts, we announce the passing of William Benjamin Abbott Jr. of Sumter, South Carolina, born in Anderson, South Carolina, whose presence will be deeply missed, having departed on October 17, 2025. He was predeceased by: his parents, William Benjamin Abbott Sr. and Roberta Plowden Abbott. He is survived by: his wife Aileen Teucher Abbott; his children, Susan Abbott Butler (Ken Mazankowski) and Dr. William Benjamin Abbott III (Kelly Clay); his stepchildren, Robin Hunt Schmidt (Nicholas) and Neil Anthony Hunt; his siblings, Mary Abbott Staggs (Chuck), Robert Plowden (Frankie), Dr. John Julian (Anne) and Arthur McFaddin Abbott (Susan); and his grandchildren, Collin Butler, Dr. Nicholas Schmidt (Bethanie) and Jennnifer Ann Ballard (Jared). He is also survived by four great grandchildren.
A memorial service will be held on Tuesday, October 21st 2025 at 11:00 AM at the First Presbyterian Church (9 W Calhoun St, Sumter, SC 29150).
