He was predeceased by: his mother Patricia Yancey Carter; and his brother Keith E. Carter. He is survived by: his father Robert Carter; his significant other Sherri Tickel Baker of Sumter; and his sisters, Kelli Pollock (David) of Dalzell and Kim Zilch (John) of Dalzell. He is also survived by nieces and nephews.
