He was predeceased by : his parents, John C. Sturkie and Vesta Mae Jeffcoat Sturkie; his stepchildren, Robert V. Loostrom and Patricia Sheppard; and also, Dorothy Floyd Sturkie and Betty Williamson Sturkie.

He is survived by : his son James Carroll Sturkie, Jr. (Mary) of Mount Pleasant; and his stepdaughters, Jeannie Evans and Barbara Frye. He is also survived by many grandchildren and great grandchildren.
