He is survived by: his wife Mary Hawthorne; his children, Patrick Hawthorne and Chalacy Hawthorne (James Robinson); and his siblings, Timothy Hawthorne of Anderson, SC, Viola Arnold (Jimmie) of Belton, Verenna Hawthorne of Honea Path, Eva Mae Litman of Anderson, Sherry Wideman (Curtis) and Alice Novella Simpson of Honea Path.
