He was predeceased by: his parents, Charlie Gerald and Tossie Ann Gerald; his siblings, Berkley Gerald and Flossie Prince of Loris, SC.; and his great grandchild Kiana Carmichael.
He is survived by: his wife Edith Martin Gerald (French Morocco); his children, Brenda Strickland (Bob) of West Columbia, Donna Boles (Bob) of West Columbia and Ron Gerald (Paula) of West Columbia; his grandchildren, Robert Strickland (Utah) of West Columbia, Angela Strickland Holladay of West Columbia, Elizabeth Dickerson (Zach) of West Columbia, Jennifer Boles Smith (Derrick) of West Columbia, Bob Lee Boles of West Columbia, Jeannette Snyder (TX), Crystal Tarltan (NC), Ronnie Gerald, Jr. (Okinawa), John Gerald (Charleston) and Katie Goff (Columbia); his great grandchildren, Jacob Strickland, Austin Dickerson, Nick Dickerson, Rashaun Carmichael, Megan Snyder, Addison Tarlton, Peyton Tarlton, Savannah Gerald, Amelia Goff and Oliver Gerald; his nephews, Kenny Prince (Ann) and Gene Milligan (Wanda); and his niece Debbie Sputo (Dominic). He is also survived by five great-great grandchildren.
Visitation was held on Friday, October 23rd 2026 from 3:00 PM to 4:00 PM at the Laurel Baptist Church (2250 Pine St, West Columbia, SC 29170). A funeral service was held on Friday, October 23rd 2026 at 4:00 PM at the same location. A burial was held on Friday, October 23rd 2026 at 5:00 PM at the Southland Memorial Gardens (700 W Dunbar Rd, West Columbia, SC 29170).
In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to Laurel Baptist Church, 2250 Pine St., West Columbia, SC 29170 or consider packing one, two, or ten Operation Christmas Child shoeboxes in memory of Herman to share the gospel around the world.
