He was predeceased by: his parents, Anthony Wayne and Mary Alene Stephens; his brother Elwood J. Stephens; and his sister-in-law Judith Stephens. He is survived by: his close friends, Medal, Combat Infantry Badge, Expert Infantry Badge and Armed Forces Expeditionary Medal; his wife Shelva Todd Stephens; his children, Katharine E. Stephens, James H. Stephens Jr. (Sheryl) and Ashley J. Taylor (Haiston Fennell); his grandchildren, Kayla Stephens Rutland (Josh), Ali Stephens Dennis (Hobie) and Blaise Taylor; his great grandchildren, Braelynn Victoria Rutland and Brynlee James Rutland; his sister Carolyn F. Bradley; his nephews, Michael Stephens, Kelly Stephens, Allen Bradley and Craig Bradley; and his friend Elaine B. Stephens.
