He was predeceased by : his wife Bonnie Sue Foley James; his parents, Dewey Dow Taylor and Ada Lee Carpenter James; his siblings, Rick Smith, Carl James, Orville James and Nancy Walker; and his grandson Ethan Caleb Taylor James.

He is survived by : his children, Tina Denene James Rhodes (Ricky), John Dewey Lee James (Lori), Charles Wayne James and Nancy Elizabeth "Beth" Walker (Heather Elizabeth); his siblings, Jimmy Bumpus and Daisy Yount; and his grandchildren, Katie Elizabeth Nicole Rhodes and Mitchell Lee Vaughan.

In lieu of flowers, memorials in Robert's memory may be made to a Veterans Association or a Children's Hospital of one's choice.
