He was predeceased by: his parents, Ruth Hamby and Truman Gillespie; his son Morris Gillespie; and his siblings, Juanita Ellison (Bunt), Linda Siegler, Sybil Morgano, James, Jerry, Joe, Sammy and Wallace Gillespie.

He is survived by: his granddaughter Erica Gillespie (Nicole); his great grandchildren, Chandler Rhodes (Austin), Bella Jordan, Jace Dorey and Kingston Gillespie; his great great grandchild Oaklynn Payne; and his sister Betty Johnson.
