Family and friends must say goodbye to their beloved Eugene Mattern of Aberdeen, South Dakota, who passed away at the age of 95, on March 31, 2026. He was predeceased by: his parents, Conrad Mattern and Caroline Mattern (Welder); his wife Eileen Mattern; and his siblings, Frank, Peter, John, Bernard, Anna, Lena and Elvina.
He is survived by: his children, James Mattern (Lu Ann), Mary Sandmeier (Jerry), Kathy Krause (Jeffrey), Barb Grieben (Rick) and Jane Reder (Kurt). He is also survived by 10 grandchildren; and 14 great-grandchildren.
In lieu of flowers, the family would prefer that memorials be given to Aberdeen Catholic Schools, 1400 N. Dakota St., Aberdeen, SD 57401.
