He was predeceased by: his father Tobias Moran (Toby); and his grandmother Claire Taylor. He is survived by: his mother Claudette Moran (Taylor) of Aberdeen, SD; his spouse Bernadette'Bernie'Schares; his daughter Amber (Jordan); his siblings, Beverly Moran of Albuquerque, NM, Valerie Moran of Albuquerque, NM and Mike Moran (Francine Fast Horse) of Aberdeen, SD; his nieces and nephews, Edward Molnar (Beverly Moran), Carli Christians (Valerie Moran), Andrea Thompson (Beverly Moran) and Zayne Fast; his pet Mike Moran; and his grandchildren, Lincoln and Piper.
Toward the end of his career, he worked in Minnesota but returned home to Aberdeen to be there for his son, Matthew, and to lovingly care for Bernie after her Alzheimer's diagnosis.
