We announce the death of Ida Mae Slocum of Aurora, South Dakota, who passed away on June 18, 2026, at the age of 91. Ida will be remembered by family members, friends, and others whose lives were connected in meaningful ways. Ida’s absence will be deeply felt by those who valued her companionship.
She was predeceased by: her parents, Leo John Matheis and Catherine Matheis (Clasen). She is survived by: her husband Charles Robert Slocum (Chuck); her children, Michael Leo John Slocum of Sioux Falls, SD and Sherri Ann Slocum of Plymouth, MN; and her granddaughter Shay Michelle Slocum of Rapid City.
To recognize Ida's contributions to her community and investment in mentoring others, she was selected as SDSU Eminent Homemaker in 2015.
