She was predeceased by: her parents, Alton Christensen and Mildred Christensen (Klein); her husband Loel LeRoy Paulson; her brother Dr. Alton Christensen; and her brothers-in-law, Merlyn Peterson and Ivo Goedde.
She is survived by: her children, Jodie Holtz (Jay) of Sioux Falls, SD, Lonnie Paulson (Alice Huth-Derrah), Lorrie Sonnheim of Sioux Falls, SD and Jeanette Reiter (Steve) of Sioux Falls, SD; her grandchildren, Shannon (Carl), A. J. (Kelsey), Micah (Alyssa), Brittany (Joey), Seth, Nathan and Megan; her great grandchildren, Jeremiah, Genevieve, JayLynn, Ember, Quintin and Kendon; and her siblings, Jean Goedde of Goldendale, WA and Jerry Christensen (Barbara) of Pierre, SD. She is also survived by neighbors, relatives and friends.
Visitation will be held on Saturday, October 3rd 2026 from 11:00 AM to 12:30 PM at the Heartland Funeral Home (1801 Frontier St, Brandon, SD 57005). A memorial service will be held on Saturday, October 3rd 2026 at 12:30 PM at the same location. The inurnment will be held on Saturday, October 3rd 2026 at 2:30 PM at the Brandon Cemetery (600 E Holly Blvd, Brandon, SD 57005).
In lieu of flowers, the family kindly requests donations be made to Make a Wish of South Dakota in memory of Joan Paulson.
